A reflection and a thank you

Dear Parents and Carers,

We reach the end of another term and I reach the end of my first year at Hartley! I cannot believe how the time has flown, how much we have achieved and how welcome I have been made to feel. I would like to thank every one of you, the staff and pupils for a wonderful first 12 months!

Thank you to all of you who took part in the recent parent survey. Over 250 responses provided some very positive evidence that the majority of families are very happy with Hartley and the education provided for their children. There was positive feedback regarding how safe children felt and how happy they were at school. There were many positive responses relating to Literacy Planet and to the support parents receive from all groups of staff at the school.

There was also some feedback relating to some incidents of bullying and behaviour. Even where these are in the minority, we take these comments seriously and have been reflecting on ways to further improve the experiences of the children. Communication around events was an area for improvement as was the challenges presented for some children around being in a fixed class from year R up to year 6. All comments, even if not mentioned here have been considered and are considered to inform our future long-term planning.

We have had a great deal of fun this term with World Book Day, Red Nose Day and finally World Languages Week. Celebrating and recognising the cultural and linguistic diversity of our families is very important. Our eyes have been really opened to the diversity of background within our community which we have not always been able to see or celebrate. Our end of week assembly demonstrated the pride children had in their own cultural heritage and languages spoken at home. We were so proud of them and they were so proud of themselves and their families.

Mrs Lambourne, myself and the office staff have enjoyed a day wearing sarees and truly felt like we were real princesses for the day!

Have a wonderful Spring break and Easter celebration.
