Art and Design

This year we have built on our knowledge and experiences of self portraits from the 2012 Face Britain Project for our first school displays. We have started using Visual Ideas books to try out our ideas, record our work and collect examples of artists’ work. A majority of our art is linked to our Quest or science; seascapes in Year 6 from their ‘Holiday Shop’ quest, clay plaques of local amenities in Year 5, Henry VIII portraits in Year 4, Roman mosaics in Year 3, clay diyas to celebrate Diwali in Year 2, Toys in Year 1 are a few examples, while art in the Foundation Stage is child initiated.

Later on in the year our whole school project will be ‘The Umbrellas’ by Pierre-Auguste Renoir. Each class will use this painting as a starting point and the children will decide where they will take their ideas. Watch this space!
