Where has the term gone? I cannot believe that we are approaching the end of Term 5 and looking forward to the final term of this academic year! The last 7 weeks have flown by and the children have achieved so much.
In all year groups we have been focusing on the children’s writing; they have tried so hard to improve their ideas, their hand writing and their use of grammar, punctuation and spelling. The help you give them at home cannot be underestimated and so I must extend a big thank you for all that you do to support your children. (Please do check our website for examples of children’s outstanding writing and work).
Pirate Week for Year 2 was a huge success and I must congratulate our staff who made it all possible. The hall was a magical pirate world and our Year 2 children thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Captain Foad ran a tight ship for the entire week, with tremendous support from her crew of mummies! Mrs Adams provided a guest appearance as Jack Sparrow leading the final Friday afternoon’s entertainment.
The Fawkham and Hartley Church Fair was blessed with sunshine and a good turn out. Mrs Shorter and Mrs Smitherman attended with our Year 3 children who performed a very polished dance to a well known song from the film Bugsy Malone – we were all very proud of them. We hope to see as many of the original ‘cast’ as possible when the children open the Summer Fair on Saturday 18th June!
We started this week with a very early start! At 4 am the first staff arrived to prepare for and greet the Year 6 children heading off to Holland. By 5am the hall was buzzing and by 5.30 the coach had left full of excited children (and staff). We are looking forward to everyone returning and sharing their stories and photographs.
For those few Year 6 children who did not go to Holland, they have been busy with whole range of activities including bowling, tie dying and pizza making. A huge thanks to Mrs Wickens, Mrs Masters, Mrs Hay, Mrs Drury, Miss Pilott and Mrs Adams for making this week so enjoyable for the children who remained.
We said goodbye to Mrs Taylor this week. She has been covering Redwood Class whilst Mrs Smith has been on maternity leave – but she leaves us only temporarily and will return to the school in September. Mrs Bransgrove will also be returning after half-term and will be teaching alongside Mrs Cashmore in Silver Birch Class.
Our wonderful PTA has provided a brand new trim trail on the lower playground for the younger children. This has been welcomed with much enthusiasm by everyone and has been well used since it has opened. I would like to extend a massive thank you to the PTA for all their hard work and the contribution they make to the quality of experience and learning the children at Hartley receive.
The next venture being led by the PTA is the Summer Fair. There is always room for more support and help at these events so please do make yourself known if you would like to contribute in any way. You can email the PTA email@example.com
With good weather predicted for next week I hope that everyone has a safe and happy half term break.
