Principal’s Letter: Term 2

Principal’s Letter: Term 2

We have had a wonderful start to Term 2 learning about our festivals of food and light and taking part in Children in Need Day.  The children had a very exciting week exploring different traditions, sampling food and taking part in different activities.  We ended the week with an assembly where the children all presented their learning.  We were very proud of the way the children appreciated each other’s work and presentations.

Children in Need was a very cosy day in our pyjamas!  We raised over £400 and would like to thank Mrs Creed for all her hard work organising this.  We would also like to thank you for all your efforts in supporting the children with their outfits and donations to such a worthwhile cause. Our grand total was £407.77! Thank you to everyone!  Our collection for the Poppy Appeal raised £272 – thank you – the charity representative was immensely pleased to come into school to report the amount raised – with only a week’s fundraising available to us.

The dreaded sickness bug has returned again, not just at Hartley but in other schools and settings.  In an attempt to reduce the impact through cross infection we are going to follow the national advice of advising parents to keep children off school for 48 hours following the last bout of sickness or diarrhoea.  Hopefully this will reduce the risk of other children catching the bug.  We do use hand sanitiser with the children and remind them to wash their hands before eating and after using the toilet.  Please could you remind children of the importance of personal hygiene to help reduce sickness.

The power cut last Wednesday was an interesting experience for us all!  I would like to thank you for your patience and understanding when queuing to collect your children.  The children were amazingly well behaved and the staff were efficient and calm in their response to the situation.  Many parents have praised the team for the way the operation went so smoothly and I would like to thank them, our catering team and the parents who volunteered to help us on the day.  School and community truly came together when it was most needed, thank you everyone.

Our thoughts now turn to …Christmas!

We have listed important dates for your diary not least of which is the Christmas Fair.  Our PTA has planned a fair that promises to be an amazing festive experience. The car park will be converted into a Christmas Market with donkey rides for the children and of course Father Christmas has booked out the day to be with us and meet the children who would like to see him.  Please support our PTA by coming along and spending some money on festive fun!

Please refer to the dates below – and if you haven’t already done so, please add them to your diaries!

Kind Regards,

Mrs S Goosani
