Wednesday 28th February – Update 12.05pm
Dear Parents and Carers,
Today continues to be hazardous across the county. The roads in the Maidstone and Medway area, where many staff live, are treacherous and many, like myself, cannot get cars onto main roads. I have heard from staff local to Hartley that the side roads are also hazardous close to school. Safety of the children, yourselves and staff is the main driver for decisions made regarding closure and continues to be so.
Current predictions mean that we are aiming to open school tomorrow if the weather does not worsen. Please note the following:
I must stress that it is at parental discretion, based on your local conditions, that if you deem it is unsafe to venture out to get to school then this will be taken into account when we record your child’s absence. Please leave a message on the school absence line as per normal procedure if the site is open and your child is absent.
We will inform families by 8.00am by text/email/website if the school is to be closed.
Again circumstances for us to consider are the ability of the catering team to reach us for lunches, safety of travel to the site for staff and families, safety of travel for families and staff leaving the site at the end of the day or earlier depending on weather forecasts.
As part of the contingency plan, please can we ask parents to be prepared to send children in with a packed lunch tomorrow if we are open – being mindful of the fact we have children in school with nut allergies – thank you. Please, no fizzy drinks.
We will continue to alert you by email and the website regarding the status of the school and whether it is open tomorrow.
